FAQ, Start a new treedome

How can I start a new treedome initiative?
Look for a few people who are interested in the idea and would like to join you in the concrete realisation of the plan.

What are the Steps one can take?
1. Choose a location suitable for establishing the new treedome.
2. Design a plan for the treedome and arrange the financing
3. Organise a painting workshop with kids between 5 and 15 years of age.

4. Construct the new treedome together
5. Open the treedome with a ceremony worth remembering
6. Use the treedome for ongoing events

How do we find the ideal location for a treedome?
Treedomes arise mostly in the vicinity of a school, a kindergarten or near a private or public organisation. It is important that there is someone to care for the treedome in future and who will continue to propagate the treedome initiative…

A circle with a diameter of approx. 8-12 metres.

How do we create a plan for the design of a new treedome?
Be inspired by those examples which already exist and ask for support  from a professional garden designer or architect.

What sort of trees should we use?
Best of all are characteristic native trees. 12 trees of the same sort, if possible.

How do we make the necessary preparations to exhibit the children’s paintings?
Use wooden tablets as shown in the illustration for example. The children’s paintings, shrink-wrapped in waterproof plastic film, can be affixed to both sides.

Where do we get children’s paintings from?
Invite a group of children to a painting workshop or, if you can, use a painting lesson at school. Try not to address the level of adult’s concepts about a greener, more ecological and sustainable future, but rather the less conscious intuitions and deeper feelings of the children. The painting workshop should help the children to give expression to their innermost visions and pictures of the development and future of our earth. You could ask the children…

• Do you have a feeling for the Earth as a living being with soul and spirit?
• What does the Earth feel in our present time?
• What feelings do you have towards Mother Earth?
• What do you wish from your heart to give to the Earth?
• What sort of healing does our Mother Earth need?
• In what way do you want to touch, handle the Earth?
• What do you wish for the Earth, what do you want to give her?
• How will the Earth develop in the future?
• What is man experiencing upon the Earth at the moment?
• What will happen to man, how will man develop in the future?
Please, no technical drawings with thin lines or texts. The drawings should come from the heart and not the head. Art is healing!

The treedome has been opened – what now?
There are countless ways to use the treedome for and with the children, e.g.
• As a venue (= a place for culture in nature) for short plays
• Music in the treedome
• Discussions in the treedome
• Shoot video messages in the treedome with kids and post them on YouTube / facebook
• Use the treedome as an outdoor classroom (discuss questions like: What does our area here/our treedome mean for the world?)
